COVID-19 Special Protocol to Maximize Safety for All Involved

What you can expect from our new protocols:

  • All necessary appointments will be scheduled in a way to limit the number of clients and staff at the clinic at one time.

  • Some appointments will be done via Telemedicine Consultations, meaning a phone call with the veterinarian to determine the best care for your pet. These consultations will be charged accordingly.

  • Our doors are locked, when you arrive please call us for assistance, or if you do not have a cell phone please ring the bell at the bottom of the steps.

  • Food and medication orders: Please consider signing up for a Romeo myVETstore account (www2.myvetstore.ca/romeo) to be able to order and pay for food and medications online before arriving at the clinic. Otherwise we will take a credit card number over the phone and then we will bring the food/medications out to your vehicle. Please maintain your distance while we deliver product. As need increases, we are planning to offer a delivery service.

  • Patient appointments – A staff member will come outside to obtain relevant history and information for the appointment, while getting the patient from the car.

  • Dogs - We will bring our own leash and once in place we ask that you remove yours. For dogs that typically do not wear a leash, they must for this hand off, otherwise there is too much contact when we need to transfer patients to each others' arms. If you do not have a leash we will unlock the door and you will place the dog in the foyer and step back outside. Then one of our staff members will retrieve the dog.

  • Cats - Please place the carrier on the steps so we maintain distance. Cats must be place in a carrier, if you do not have one please let us know.

  • Once the doctor has done their assessment, they will call with findings, recommendations and plans moving forward. Payment will be discussed and a credit card will be processed over the phone. If you do not have a credit card we will also accept etransfers. The patient will then be returned to you while maintaining social distancing.

Services we will continue to provide:

  • Urgent medical cases (illness/injury). Please call us with any concerns and we will decide if the patient needs to come in or if telemedicine is an option

  • Telemedicine exams will be provided when possible

  • Food sales – Done via myVETstore, credit card over phone or etransfer, and curbside drop off

  • Medication sales – Done via myVETstore, credit card over phone, or etransfer, and curbside drop off

  • As needed we will offer food and medications delivery within Stratford at no charge

  • Puppy/Kitten, and 1 year old patients for relevant vaccine boosters – Rabies and other medically relevant vaccines

  • Heartworm/Flea/Tick Prevention – Heartworm tests can be postponed and prevention dispensed with owner consent. Done via myVETstore, credit card over phone, or etransfer, and curbside drop off

  • Surgery for painful conditions or medically necessary – As long as household is considered low risk

  • Euthanasia – We will limit the number of people present and maintain social distancing as much as possible

  • Urine and Fecal samples if needed to be analysed – To be dropped off and paid for via credit card over the phone or etransfer

  • Laser Therapy Treatments – Will continue if medically needed to maintain patient comfort

We will not be offering these services on a routine basis:

  • Annual Wellness Exams will be postponed – vaccines that are not deemed medically necessary or have been consistent in past years, can wait until further notice

  • Rabies Vaccines for adult animals that have been regularly vaccinated in the past

  • Routine blood screens for medications, postpone as long as postponement will not have negative impact on patient

  • Surgery – We will delay surgery if the patient can be temporarily maintained with low risks

  • Routine Surgery – Elective procedures, spays, neuters, preventive dentals

  • Grooming, nail trims, anal gland expressions, unless lack of treatment will cause undue pain (broken toenails, ruptured/infected anal glands)

  • Walk in appointments will not be seen – All appointments need to be pre-arranged to plan for staff and client safety
